- We at Philips Research are currently planning a training disc for
- mechanical engineers that will serve as reference as well. The
- platform is CD-I, for which users need a CD-I player and a TV set.
- Philips is currently selling the players for $500 in the USA, I think
- (In Europe it is usually more expensive, although I don't understand
- why).
-
- At another group within Philips they developed a training for a
- software program on CD-I and the users especially liked the way they
- could control the pace, compared to 'live' training. Also the ability
- of working with multiple languages came in handy and also the
- possibility of going in-depth on demand was appreciated.
-
- The reason why we choose for CD-I is because of the low cost for the
- user and ease-of-use, both compared to PC-based multimedia.
-
- Hope this helps,
