- Today two map files arrived (in comp.mail.maps, of course) with
- Subject headers of
- UUCP map for u.bel.1.new
- and
- UUCP map for u.bel.0.new
-
- These names do not fit the pattern described in the README map
- file, viz.:
-
- ``
- # The files are organized by country, using the ISO 3166 3 letter
- # country code for each country. Each file has a name like
- # u.iso.r1.r2.s, where "iso" is the country code, r1, r2, etc are
- # regions and subregions (e.g. states in the USA, provinces in Canada,
- # etc.) and s is a sequence number (usually 1, but sometimes 2, 3, and
- # up may be provided to keep individual files down to a reasonable size,
- # thus, u.usa.ca is separated into two regions: [135] for southern,
- # [246] for northern.)
- ''
-
- "new" is certainly not a sequence number, nor are "0" and/or "1"
- regions in Belgium (moreover, the README file says "0" isn't a
- sequence number (1, 2, 3, ...)).
-
- [Mind you, the u.eur.ita.* etc. maps don't fit the specified
- pattern either, since "eur" isn't a country code.]
-
- I haven't seen any discussion or informational postings about
- changes to the map file format. What's going on?
