- In Scientific American, July 1991, p. 112, Paul Wallich's article entitled
- "FORTRAN Forever: Is it still the language of choice for science?"
- contains the quote but not its origin. According to the article, Guy
- L. Steele of Thinking Machines quotes an unknown scientist as saying
- "I don't know what the computer language of the year 2000 will look
- like, but I know that it will be called FORTRAN."
