  14.         Two items have arrived into my space in the last 2 days that
  15.         indicate the book situation isn't totally bleak.
  16.  
  17.         The first is Michael Ham's tutorial distributed with the
  18.         purchase of an LMI Forth system.  A pleasant surprise, since
  19.         my only concern was to own an LMI license. It looks excellent
  20.         with many useful demos in source form (disk supplied). Though
  21.         much of the Forth appears to be generic Forth-83, a beginner
  22.         would have to use it with UR/Forth.

  24.         The second is a "Computer Science Silver Sale 1992" advert
  25.         sent by Springer-Verlag, which they list their 1984 book
  26.         "Forth". It is quite a good introduction to FIG-type traditional
  27.         Forth systems, which lends some support to those who feel the
  28.         greatest strength of the "glass box" model is educational. It
  29.         isn't Starting Forth, but does have the virtue of being on a
  30.         major publisher's current list.
