- I'm beta testing a product called Xview for DOS from NCD. It has an optional
- package called PC-Xremote. It uses the xremote protocol which is supposed to
- be more efficient than SLIP or other protocols when doing X over serial lines.
- I just fired it up last night for the first time. It appears to work well.
- I don't know if I'd do FrameMaker over the modem, but using several xterms to
- hack in seems fine. There is mention of a rewritten xterm by NCD that was
- written specifically for xremote. I need to get the source for it from NCD and
- compile it. The documentation for PC-Xremote says their x-term is more
- efficient. It is my understanding that Xremote is included in X11R5. Xremote
- is the helper program that runs on the host. Xremote was included in the
- release of X we run on our Motorola 8840 (MPC) platform. I'm not sure what the
- cost of the product is. I thing its around $350 for PC-Xview and another $100
- for PC-Xremote. For more information you can contact the NCD PC-Xdivision at
- (503) 641-2200.
