- I don't understand why Supra has all of these mix ratings. It seems that people
- rate it anywhere from gold to garbage. Anyone have a reason why this is so?
-
- I think it could be a number of reasons:
-
- 1. Supra doesn't supply any software with their modems(at least the PC version).
- When I first got my Supra a couldn't get it to connect above 2400 with
- the parameters they had in the referance sheet. Their initialization string just
- didn't work for me. Maybe users have an incorrect initialize sequence.
-
- By not including ANY software, Supra is shooting themselves in the foot. Saving
- a few bucks on disks might cost them many 1000's of customers.
-
- The Mac version of the modem comes with software and a cable. How many mac
- users are happy with there Supra?
-
- 2. The particular modem might simply be "broken". It might be possible that the
- analog circuitry is below par for that modem.
-
- 3. The Supra might be more sensitive to line noise or degredation than other
- v32bis modems.
-
- 4. If 3 isn't the case, then maybe the phone lines in your area are poor.
-
-
- I find that once I got the modem going, it worked like a charm. I am not a heavy
- duty modem user, so I can't say that I tested itthouroughly.
