- Well, in this instance Intel did somethings right for a change and
- it is an easy model to install and configure, plus it talks to just
- about anything. Noisy lines is where it really shines. Now for the
- dirt you asked for. I run and Intel SatisFAXion 400, which is an
- Intel 14.4EX model with FAX capability. The only problems I had
- with it were with Telebit T1500,T2500 modems. Since I have upgraded
- to the new EPROM patch from Intel's BBS, that problem has
- disappeared too. Mine was among the first of the new units. I got
- it before it was generally available, so the one's in the stores
- won't have this problem from the onset.
-
- As to UNIX and NET capability. I and typing this message connected
- to a UNIX mode through one now. I have also used 14.4's on Terminal
- Servers without so much as a sniffle, and they handle hardware ands
- software flow control beautifully.
-
- As to the 80186. It's fast enough to get the job done. After
- running a grueling 36 maximum load test suite against a terminal
- server, switching baudrates on the fly, forcing the modem to
- retrain while transmitting and push maximum data through it; it ran
- without losing one packet.
-
- It may not be the absolutes latest and greatest on the block, but I
- have been very happy with it...
