- I need some help configuring a 9600 baud modem.
-
- Specifically, I'm using a Zoom v.32/MNP-5 modem, external version, ROM
- version 1.200, with ProComm Plus for Windows. No matter how I configure
- the modem or ProComm Plus, the modem performs erratically. For example,
- from a cold start, the modem may accept the configuration string,
- successfully dial a number and maintain a connection, and then go on-hook
- in accord with the appropriate command. But within a few minutes to a half
- hour, it ceases to respond. In some instances, it will not accept the
- initialization or respond in any other way. In other cases, if it is
- turned off and then back on, the software will run the initialization
- string, the modem will respond at least to the extent that the LEDs
- indicate response, but it will not dial.
-
- (At the recommendation of Zoom Telephonics' technical support department,
- RTS/CTS flow control is is on, the autobaud detection feature is set to
- off, and the speed is locked at 19,200. The initialization string issued by
- ProComm Plus for Window is "AT&F&C1&D2^M" or
- "AT&F&C1&D2^M~~~ATS48=128^M~~~ATS0=0^M," with performance being at least
- outwardly equal in either case. Also, the command "AT \E1" has been issued
- to match line impedance.)
-
- Any advice? Suggestions? I'm wondering if there is a problem with the
- NVRAM, since the modem's behavior suggests that it may not be able to
- maintain a configuration. But I'm open to any and all suggestions,
- especially those that will work!
