  24. umm, some of us read *comp.dcom.modems* for discussions on modems (as
  25. opposed to other groups).  but there's more involved in that discussion
  26. than just questions about ``why doesn't my modem [fill in blanks]?'' or
  27. ``why am I being limited to xxxx cps with xxx modem?'' --- there are
  28. other topics that *NEEED* to be here for the modem discussion to be
  29. complete.  one of these is the set of technical discussions that pop up
  30. from time to time (usually seem to evolve from something else).  another
  31. of these is information about what's new and/or coming soon.

  33. Toby has always been a tremendous resource to this group (at least, for
  34. as long as I've been around here), and when, every now and then, he
  35. posts this info on new stuff that's coming out, think about it in
  36. relation to the above paragraph....  now, if the group degenerated to
  37. the point that it was nothing *BUT* press releases on new products, I'd
  38. be outta here.  but the odd press release every now and then is, IMHO,
  39. not a problem, and quite the contrary, is a good thing.  suppose someone
  40. happened to be interested in one of those?

  45. the point is, it's reasonable to expect modem-related announcements such
  46. as that in comp.dcom.modems.  now, if you'd rather move it to a .newprod
  47. group, why not comp.dcom.newprod?  that way, the scope is more limited,
  48. and it becomes more reasonable than asking someone to wade through a lot
  49. of non-datacomm related posts all the time to find those few that are
  50. datacomm products.

  52. but short of something like comp.dcom.newprod, info about new modems
  53. belongs here a lot more than in comp.newprod.  think about it for a
  54. minute....what's this group's topic?
