  13.   I was wondering, most of the discussion here is mostly between Supra,
  14. ZyXel, Zoom, and Boca, but no discussion on the Intel modems. I have
  15. been reading this conference for some time and I have yet to see much
  16. discussion on the Intel modems. I did a little bit of research and I
  17. am planning on purchasing a 14,400 bps fax modem in the next few days
  18. and have pretty much made up my mind (I think). I have been debating
  19. very seriously on the Intel SatisFAXtion 400. I run a BBS and this 
  20. modem would be running on it at Com 3, IRQ 5. I just want to know 
  21. peoples opinion of thing before I buy it.

  23. My questions are:
  24. 1) How does this 'jumperless' installation work, software defined or
  25.    autosensing or what?
  26. 2) Is the internal buffering as good as a NS16550A UART?
  27. 3) Does its quick connect option really "quick connect"?
  28. 4) What about "soft" updates for the ROM, how does it work?
  29. 5) Does it really require a 286 or higher machine?
  30. 6) Is the manual complete and understandable for someone who is 
  31.    somewhat technical?

  33. Someone who runs one a BBS please reply or send me email please about 
  34. how they like, dislike it, ect. BTW, in all the looking I have done, no
  35. one has said a bad thing about this modem yet.
