- I underlined the portion that I was responding to (which you've deleted).
- I responded to the assumption that the serial port hardware in an IBM
- compatible could not support 14,400 bps.

- I showed why that assumption about the hardware was wrong. I did not
- argue that software SHOULD support 14,400 bps, just that it COULD
- support it if the programmers wanted to.

- For the record, there ARE some situations where you don't want to talk
- to the modem faster than the modem-to-modem transmission rate: When your
- computer can't use flow control.
