  17.    As I understand it, the protocol still remains in the public domain, but
  18. the _implementations_ of it produced later by Chuck are proprietary.  Am I
  19. right and just making a picky little distinction, or is the protocol itself
  20. now proprietary?
  21.    In any event, from what I understand, old protocol implementations will
  22. still work with new ones, they just don't have all the bang-for-the-buck
  23. that the newer stuff does.
