- I got an Intel 14.4ex. Indeed, it is a champ on noisy lines; actually,
- sometimes it overdoes it when renegotiating the line too often to get the
- highest speed possible. I wish there was a way to tell it, "chill out!
- the current speed is fine." The bad news for Intel is that if you plan on
- using their modems with unix boxes, beware!
-
- The bottom line there is what flow control scheme you need. For Sun
- workstations for example, the zs driver for the serial port on the
- motherboard doesn't handle the rts line. Whether it's the zilog chip
- itself or the software,I don't know. Based on this information, it
- seems that the best you can get is cts for outbound traffic and
- xon/xoff for inbound traffic -- has anybody better schemes for Suns?.
- Finally, the question is whether the modem can live with that kind of
- environment.
-
- For Intel, the answer is no. For USR, the answer is yes, last I
- checked on a manual for a Courier v32bis DS. For Zyxel, I don't know.
