  28. Well, maybe not so opposing.  I tried the Psychopath, uh, Telepath.  The
  29. first one wouldn't connect to anything at over 2400 bps; the secon would
  30. connect selectively (well, maybe better than that, perhaps 80% of the
  31. time) to other modems.  About Kermit, the file transfer protocol: the TP
  32. would work with Kermit (file transfer protocol, not the comm program,
  33. which I never tried but reputedly does not work), but it caused
  34. thousands of errors (which were resent and therefore received correctly)
  35. for even small (25K) downloads.  As you might imagine, the effective
  36. transfer rate dropped precipitously when using that protocol (the only
  37. one supported by our local campus server).  I returned the TP and
  38. replaced it with a Practical Peripherals PM14400FX unit that has been
  39. working flawlessly.  The Telepath sent faxes fine for me; I didn't have
  40. a chance to try it on receive.  It was too sensitive to line noise, in
  41. my experience, and often disconnected on even local calls (all of which
  42. the PP unit handles with aplomb).  You can't beat the software and modem
  43. deal of the TP, but I think it's a crummy piece of hardware.  Just my two
  44. cents...
