- E.164 addresses are subnetwork dependent ones and owned by CCITT. IP
- addresses, on the other hand, are network layer addresses. neither of
- them are suitable for ATM internets consisting of any number of
- arbitralily connected public and private networks. IP would otherwise
- be ok, but it is running out of its address space. a better
- alternative is to use NSAPs as ATM end point identifiers no matter
- what protocol one is running once theATM connection is established.
