- I'm preparing to upgrade from Informix version 1.10 to 5.0 and have some
- lingering questions that I can't seem to answer, so once again I bow
- before the collected knowledge of the net and pray for enlightenment.
-
- We are migrating all our database work to either an Altos 10000 or 15000.
- I will have 30 -40 Informix users on this system. MOST of them will be
- inserting/updating data into the various tables.
-
- We are a manufacturing/sales organization so the data is inventory
- levels, customer data, order_header, order_detail, shipping info, etc..
- all interacting.
-
- In such an environment, do you think that th on-line engine is a
- necessity, or is the SE engine equivelent to the task?
- At this level of use, on the proscribed hardware, would the on-line
- engine offer perceptibly faster access to data?
- I suppose the REAL question is - Is online WORTH the $5000 difference as
- compared to SE? - and why?
-
- Real-life experiences, suggestions, alternative, condolences solicited:
-
- Please reply here or to: dschronc@lee.cerf.fred.org and I'll summarize.
-
- THANK YOU !
