- I can tell you why the researchers in my unit held on to III+ instead of
- migrating to IV (apart from the bugs, that is :)) - time is precious. We are
- under constant pressure to prepare and analyse data and feed the results back
- up the line; we cannot afford the luxury of learning a new system (and if
- you've become accustomed to III+, IV is not friendly at all) because we don't
- have the time.
-
- In an ideal world, we'd be able to take several weeks out to become as
- familiar with IV as we are with III+, and then benefit from the superior speed
- of IV. However... well, you know the rest.
-
- This answer may also be applied to the question: Why do typists still use QWERTY
- when there are much more efficient systems available ?
-
- III+ works well enough for us anyway - there is no need to upgrade to IV because
- there are no advantages which are significant enough for us (there might be for
- others, naturally).
-
- We do have IV (I bought a copy with a view to persuading others to acclimatise
- themselves, but there is never any time).
-
- If I ever set up another unit's computing facilities from scratch and can take
- staff who do not already have a skill base on which to draw, then I'll look
- further afield - but not to IV, which is not currently the pick of the bunch :)
- (with apologies to Cy at Borland).
