  22. The price/performance curve right now favors 386/33's.  I wouldn't go
  23. with anything less than that.  That CPU will perform very nicely.
  24. I'd use at least 4MB RAM so you can run Foxpro in Extended mode.  Go
  25. to 8MB RAM if you have a lot of databases, or large ones.  But 4MB
  26. is pretty good.  We still don't usually use local hard drives, because
  27. most of our networks aren't close to bandwidth saturation.  Also, I
  28. find it harder to manage a bunch of local hard drives than a bunch
  29. of network directories (one per user).  For example, if you need to
  30. delete .TMP files, clear out scratch databases, etc.  Also, if you
  31. use a local drive for user-specific setup info, then when that user
  32. uses a different machine, their setup doesn't come with them like it
  33. does if you use network directories for that.

  35. Having said all that, the conventional wisdom still points to a local
  36. hard drive.  If you do, go with an 80MB IDE (40's cost barely less than
  37. 80's, even if you can still find 40's!).  I can't imagine using more
  38. than 10 or 20MB of it for temporary files.
