  15. The latest official PKZIP is (stil) version 1.1. Version PKZIP 2.0 should
  16. be comming soon (tm). There is a PKZIP 1.93 alpha version but this one
  17. is buggy and PKWARE advices not to use it for serious work.

  19. There are three major alternatives available currently. ARJ 2.30 (little
  20. slower, comparable compression, more features, free for private use) and
  21. InfoZIP 1.9, InfoUNZIP 5.0. These are portable PKZIP clones which are compatible
  22. with PKZIP 1.1, PKZIP 1.93a and PKZIP 2.0 (according to PKWARE). Info is
  23. freeware which as bonus is portable to UNIX, Mac, etc. Also ZOO is
  24. interesting as the leading free portable archiver for OS/2 and UNIX.
