- I just downloaded the "new" version of the good apple2 emulator
- which was recently put onto cco.caltech.edu
- Previously, I'd been using the older one successfully.
-
- The new one seems slightly more complete and bug free...
- and most importantly, it emulates an Apple super serial card
- through the IBM com ports!
-
- This should make an even easier quicker method of file transfers
- possible in both directions between PC and Apple][...
- by simply running a good apple comm program on the apple and the
- emulator.
-
- Note: I am an Apple novice and I also don't have a comm program.
-
- Important things noticed about the newer emulator version:
- * ROMs are not included in the ZIP file.
- I used the ones from the previous release: APPLE.ROM and DISK.ROM
- But, I had to rename DISK.ROM to FLOPPY.ROM and that seemed to work.
- Also, I don't have the serial card ROMs :-( and don't know how
- to get them. I do have a legit copy built into my real Apple][
- but I'm clueless how to capture it to a useable ROM file.
- * When unzipping make sure to get those *.clr files and the apple.ini
- files. (you don't need those *.asm files to run the emulator)
- * If you don't have the serial ROMS, I think you have to modify
- apple.ini to make slot1 be empty. (worked for me)
- * This use of MSDOS files is a little different, I renamed my disk6a.dsk
- to be system.dsk and tweeked the path in apple.ini ... should be
- obvious what to do if you look at slot 6 of the apple.ini file.
-
- Ok, so bottom line... we may now have an easier method of bi-directional
- file transferring. If anyone has the serial ROM file please let me
- know. And, also if I could get a real or virtual disk of a decent comm
- program (kermit?) that would be a big help too.
-
- So experts, will this idea fly?
-
- Thanks,
- Lee
