-
- As far as a DOS-based BBS running under Windows, I've run Remote Access
- under Windows for the past eight months, first with Windows 3.0 (shakey)
- and then with 3.1 when it came out, which has been rock-solid. Remote
- Access is Windows aware and will give up its time slice if not needed.
-
- I've got a v.32 v.42b modem with a 16440. I did have a 16550 which seems
- to work with Windows 3.1 providing the Fossil driver is installed prior
- to running windows, and Windows-controlPanel-388Enhanced is set to ignore
- contention on the port. At any rate, while in the control panel set the
- time slice to 5ms. Also you will need a PIF for the BBS program that
- allows background execution and locks the program into RAM.
-
- I've been very happy with the operation since it lets me run not only other
- DOS apps but also Windows apps at the same time. I use Wintools for a
- drag and drop interface and all the BBS utility programs and log files are
- accessable with a simple click of the mouse.
