- OK, before I get carried away, let me repeat the essential information:
-
- xsky, a computerized sky atlas for the X Window System, is available for
- anonymous FTP on arizona.edu in the directory [.SOFTWARE.UNIX.XSKY] as
- xsky.tarz
-
- The file is just over 700K bytes in size; you should retrieve it in binary
- mode and rename it to xsky.tar.Z, which is a compressed tar file. Explode
- it and read BuildInstall.
-
- For those of you who already have xsky, this version fixes the PostScript
- print file generation code to generate print files that make sense even if
- you used an ANSI C compiler to build xsky. There are also a number of new
- entries in the RNGC description expansion tables, so more of the descriptions
- expand to something sensible (there is still ongoing work in that area;
- currently there are about three dozen bogus expansions, but fixing them
- involves being careful not to break other ones, so it's kind of slow work).
-
- xsky runs using the Athena widget set, so it should work on any pure X plat-
- form (users of Sun OpenWindows, I'm sorry I cannot help you; I've no idea
- what the problems are). xsky is known to work on a wide variety of systems
- with both ANSI and non-ANSI compilers.
-
- Unless there's something that needs fixing badly, this will be the last
- release for quite some time. I have a fair-sized list of enhancement
- suggestions, and as always, I actively solicit more, but other duties press
- in at the moment.
-
- Please don't hesitate to write with questions, comments, or suggestions. I
- try to answer everybody, but sometimes mail bounces. Please be sure to put
- a valid mail address in your signature; it's lots friendlier than making
- everybody decode the mail headers, which are wrong/misleading a lot of
- times, anyway!
-
- If you're using xsky, I'd like to hear from you, if only to say hi. It's
- interesting to watch software work its way around the world through the
- magic of the net.
