- large accounting systems routinely carry 5 or 6 digits to the
- RIGHT of the decimal. The story I was told was that the round-off
- error in the accounts of GM amount to several millions in TAX payments,
- (or at least did in better times) so the IRS insists that the
- computations be carried with many digits.

- Oh yes - where do you get fractional cents??? Amortization and
- depreciation calculations, for starters. Also the oil and
- gas biz has similar issues, particularly with currency exchange
- and the like.
