- I have been using Nexpert Object for about 3 years and found that it is
- an excellent expert system shell. It is deliverable on a wide range of
- platforms and is easily embedded in other applications as well as having
- interfaces to many databases.
- As you have described your customers idea of having users modify the
- knowledge base, I don't think would work well, especially if they have
- no programming experience. As you probably know, the users that would be
- modifing the rules would have to have some understanding of how rules
- relate to one another and the effects of forward and backward chaining.
- In addition, most users, even thought they have a lot of knowledge about
- the problem domain, lack the skill to be able to put that knowledge into
- rules and then be able to debug the knowledge base. If on the other hand
- your system was more parameterized, as you have stated, and your expert
- system was data driven, then you could allow the users to modify the
- data, and therefore the system, without having to change the knowledge base.
- I hope this information is helpful.
