- While I can't give specifics on which packages will do alphanumeric
- character recognition offhand, I can tell you a little bit about where to
- look.
-
- There are three direct dial-up BBS's that I know of that carry a
- significant amount of small-machine simulators (for PC's mainly, some Mac,
- some Amiga, some Unix(tm)): ShadeTree BBS in Pittsburgh, PA
- (412-249-9416); the Interocitor BBS in Irving, TX (214-258-1832), and the
- Central Neural System BBS in Richland, WA (509-627-6267). The Interocitor
- and CNS BBS's are available 23 hours a day (one hour in the morning is
- reserved for mail transfers), and ShadeTree BBS is available from early
- evening until morning (no daytime dial-ups). All these BBS's are free to
- access, and encourage users to submit additions to the archives of public
- domain, freeware, and shareware files related to ANN and AI technology.
-
- Many of the files from the Central Neural System BBS are also available by
- anonymous ftp from me.uta.edu:/pub/neural/annsim, or somewhere on
- nic.funet.fi.
-
- If the "rich supply" on wuarchive.wustl.edu is contained in the
- /mirrors/msdos/neural-nets directory, then any one of the BBS's listed
- above is definitely worth your while in checking out. I happen to think
- that the Central Neural System is most worth your trouble, but then I am
- the sysop of CNS. ;-)
