  23. Here at Case Western Reserve University (in the Computer Engineering
  24. and Science Department), we have a research group led by Randy Beer
  25. that is conducting research on autonomous agents (artificial
  26. creatures) controlled by dynamical neural networks.

  28. In our group, research areas include analyzing the behavior of
  29. autonomous agents as dynamical systems, evolving neural controllers
  30. using genetic algorithms and other search techniques, and developing
  31. agents that use simulated vision.  My research (I'm a Ph.D. student)
  32. is on techniques for enabling agents to detect and escape from
  33. patterns of static and cyclic behavior.

  35. We also have a number of interdisciplinary research efforts with
  36. professors and students in the departments of Biology (computational
  37. neuroscience), Mechanical Engineering (applications for legged
  38. robots), and Systems Engineering (applications to control systems).
