  14. Paul Gherman asks about the financial support of an e-journal and
  15. the Oxford/Post-Modern Culture arrangement.  Is OUP "publishing"
  16. this journal?  It sounds more like what we would call
  17. "distributing."  What exactly will OUP be doing for the journal?
  18. Paying for copy-editing or editorial office expenses, or just the
  19. order-processing and marketing expenses?

  21. It will be very interesting to see if it is possible to sell
  22. microfiche of something that is freely available over the
  23. internet.  If it succeeds, this will be a useful addition to the
  24. already wide range of possible arrangements between publishers
  25. and journals.

  27. I do wonder about the applicability of this model to larger
  28. journals, particularly in equations/tables/graphics intensive
  29. disciplines.  I doubt, for example, that we could sell enough
  30. microfiche of the Astrophysical Journal & Supplement to pay for
  31. the five full-time copy-editors that prepare its 20,000 pages per
  32. year, even if we were to dispense with typesetting, printing, and
  33. mailing.
