- Subject: loading Marcive GPO records - with LBC30

- Paige,
-
- I use LBC30 as part of the LCN020JC job to load Marcive records. It
- seems to work well. That takes care of load and overlay. We are in
- the process of adding some code to pass the initial housekeeping record
- value to LBC30 automatically. Can send the jcl/proc if you're
- interested. Still testing the housekeeping record part, but have
- been doing Marcive since the summer.
-
- We bought the entire Marcive GPO file and loaded them as suppressed
- records in a separate processing unit (D1). We have special project
- staff who have been hired to go thru the shelf list checking our holdings
- against the suppressed records. The suppressed records are derived into
- our main processing unit and the holdings data are entered appropriately,
- as part of recon procedures set up specifically for government docs.
- We have separate procedures for recon and on-going work in this area,
- and my description can't begin to go into details. The D1 Marcive file
- also serves as a resource file for staff. The supressed feature keeps
- them from being displayed in the OPAC until we've checked and made sure
- we have the title, etc.. We are also able to use NOTIS for check-in,
- claiming, etc., as well as pre-order searching. We were visited by
- an inspector from the Superintent of Docs this fall, and he gave us high
- marks for our procedures for handling the documents.
-
-
- I changed LBC30 code to load the records as suppressed, changing the
- value in the recently discussed D/S fixed field. I also
- changed the code to have the Marcive number in the 001 field be
- loaded as an 015 field instead of an 035 field, and added 015
- to the standard number index, searchable with ng. These changes were
- purely local decisions and would not have to be made to use LBC30 to load
- Marcive records.
-
- Sorry, I haven't looked at LCN011B.
