- Here is a printer driver problem that the good folks at NBI have not (yet?)
- been able to overcome. Perhaps someone on the list can give it a try. I
- should admit, however, that I am not a programmer even for hobby purposes,
- and understand only half the vocabulary used on this list (but I do know
- something about apples, trees, birds, and other critters; the squirrels
- in front of the window above the monitor screen are very busy these days).
-
- Now then: in NB4, Toshiba 321 printouts show a number of additional blank
- lines at the top of each page, with the ssame number missing at the bottom.
- In effect, there is a double top margin, and no bottom margin. This was not the
- case in NB3, incl. NB3.1, except when I used MLA style (the only canned
- style I use).
- With MLA style mss. I manually adjusted the platen. That was fine for longer
- text
- (sorry) texts, but will not do for one-page office memos, because you lose a
- blank sheet with every printout.
- The wonderful Rebecca says that NB4 requires the printhead to be placed in the
- top
- (oops) left-hand corner of the sheet before printing, and then advances the
- necessary number of lines before starting to print. However, such an
- arrangement is impossible for printers which hold the paper to the platen
- at a point higher than the printhead. It is hard to believe that NB4
- excludes this sizable family of office workhorses. NB printer drivers must
- include an override of the automatic advance in such cases.
- In case anybody suspects that the printer itself can be adjusted: it is
- already set to the lowest possible advance, and NB overrrides printer
- already set to the lowest possible advance, and NB overrrides printer
- settings anyway. Any ideas?
