- A year or so ago, I went to visit the jr. college where my husband worked. Of
- course, the first place I went was the library. I am still talking about the
- reference desk.

- The desk was a modular island in the middle of the room. One side faced the
- front door and all areas -- cd stations, reference collection, reference tables
- , vertical files -- were visible. The sides of the "desk" were about 4 1/2 feet
- high. Inside the module was a complete work station: a Macintosh, desks,
- ready reference, etc. It was this librarian's idea of an ideal environment.
