- Like many readers, I am often short on time and long on interest. I often find
- so many messages in my mailbox that I tend to scan the subject field and just
- delete anything that doesn't seem promising. Tonight I had a few minutes to
- read things recreationally and found that I am a LURKER. (I'd been trashing
- these notes for a while. This is a thinly veiled plea for relevant subjects.)
-
- I'd also like to share some information an a new book about the Internet:
-
- Krol, Ed. _The_Whole_Internet:_User's_Guide_&_Catalog. Sebastapol CA: O'Reilly
- & Assoc., Inc., 1992.
-
- His approach is interdisciplinary. History and development of the Net is
- sketched out in an understandable way. Gopher, WAIS, World-Wide Web, Archie,
- FTP, and connecting are covered. The catalog section is very brief, but tries
- to cover resources of interest to a diverse audience. A good resource for
- people who like to read the manual before they dive in.
