- Subject: 3420 channel extenders
- Comments: To: IBM-MAIN@RICEVM1.RICE.EDU
-
- We have a string of IBM 3420-8 tape drives with a 3803-2 controller that
- are greater than 200 feet from the processor and thus, we need to have
- channel extenders to get them to work. We currently use IBM 3044
- channel extenders to attach 3x74 controllers in another building, but
- our IBM CEs tell us that 3044s are not supported for 3420. We are
- looking for alternatives to accomplish our task. Additionally, in about
- 3 months, these same tape drives will be moving to another building away
- from the processor and these same channel extenders will have to do the
- trick for the long distance move (1 mile).
-
- My question is, does anybody use channel extenders on their 3420 round
- tape drives? If so, what kind do you use and are you satisfied with
- the vendor?
-
- Any information you might provide will be greatly appreciated.
