  17. We have a string of IBM 3420-8 tape drives with a 3803-2 controller that
  18. are greater than 200 feet from the processor and thus, we need to have
  19. channel extenders to get them to work.  We currently use IBM 3044
  20. channel extenders to attach 3x74 controllers in another building, but
  21. our IBM CEs tell us that 3044s are not supported for 3420.  We are
  22. looking for alternatives to accomplish our task.  Additionally, in about
  23. 3 months, these same tape drives will be moving to another building away
  24. from the processor and these same channel extenders will have to do the
  25. trick for the long distance move (1 mile).

  27. My question is, does anybody use channel extenders on their 3420 round
  28. tape drives?  If so, what kind do you use and are you satisfied with
  29. the vendor?
