- Subject: Simple/cheap laserdisc control software for PC?
- Lines: 18

- DAN,
- To the best of my knowledge the X-commands which are needed to
- control the laserdisc are only available as part of the Multi-Media
- extensions of windows 3.1. If you need to control the laserdisc and
- cannot run windows your only option on the PC is to generate your
- own Barcodes and run it that way. The cheapest solution would be to
- use a Macintosh (any one will do it) and a software package from
- the Voyager Company You could do this entire configuration for under
- $1000.00. To run Windows 3.1 with tthe Multimedia extensions,
- you would need at leas a 386 machine with 4-5meg of ram, and a software
- package called toolbook which has a fairly high learning curve. Since it
- is a new initiative to introduce laser discs to the campus, you may be
- able to introduce and adopt the Mac platform on which to do it.
