- I'm also an ABD working on a distance learning program interested in
- qualitativeaspects of research. My dissertation will consider text style in
- training
- materials used in business & industry (not in a DE program specifically). A
- couple things that would interest me in your study would be gender and the
- amount of peer-to-peer interactions vs. the amount of instructor interactions.
- The literature suggests in face-to-face interactions both gender & position
- (e.g., instructor) have an impact on who says what when...we've notice some
- differences in our DE courses in the amount of peer-to-peer vs. instructor
- interactions. Can't comment on gender (98% of the student population at
- St. Kate's are women). Given several experiences where the absence of women
- in discussions related to theory on-line, I suspect gender differences will
- still be found in your transcripts.
