- Everyone has the right to express his own opinion regarding
- the cochlear implants. Parents have their RIGHT to
- make decisions whatever is best for their child.
-
- What are the cons and pros for Cochlear Implants?
- What are the cons and pros for being deaf at birth ?
-
- Let's be fair - Cochlear Implants are NOT
- for everyone !! It depends on the parents,
- child and circumstances. For example, it might
- work for these hearing child who lost their hearing.
- However, it might NOT work for a born-deaf child.
- Here is an analogy: forcing a left-handed child to
- learn how to write using her right hand. That's
- exactly how I felt when I was being forced to
- use hearing aid and being forced to listen these sounds
- since I was three years old - I hated every minute
- of it. I eventually learned how to throw
- my hearing aid away into the toliet when
- I was about fourteen years old. :*) Thank God, I was
- NOT being forced to learn how to speak - perhaps
- that's why I could speak fluently !!
-
- In my own personal opinion, I am VERY disappointed with
- the 60 Minutes program because it appears that it does
- NOT make National Association of the Deaf (NAD) look good.
- It does make the cohlear implants look good and even better
- than the deaf culture. I'm sure there is always a room
- for improvement for NAD to grow somehow - I mean it as
- a constructive critcism.
-
- Comments are welcome.
