- The Touchscreen Kiosks we've fielded (3 at the moment with 12 more
- planned) are housed in re-cycled 'kiosks' from an advertising group
- in Canada. We obtained these boxes & printers after they were used
- in a local supermarket chain. They did fit our immediate $$$ need. The
- kiosks are about 6-7 feet tall with adjustable oven like racks to hold
- a tower, printer & terminal with room for a cd or tape player. In addition
- there's a lockable cabinent for a tv monitor atop the unit. We also
- picked up our printers, Magnetec, along with the kiosks.
-
- The drawbacks on this type of kiosk is that the screen slot is not adjustable
- and can cause paralax problems when using the touchscreen. Since these were
- made for a market there's been no design consideration for those in
- wheelchairs or who would have difficultly in using a touchscreen.
-
- We do have a fellow here who's sketched out a few ideas for 'desktop'
- kiosks that would be fairly easy to build. No real 'blueprints' of sorts
- but a good enough idea to get started on. In fact anyone with woodworking
- skills and graphic arts knowledge could produce a limited run of a kiosks
- for a fairly low cost. If anyone's interested I'll talk to him about
- expanding on this theme.
