- At the University of Delaware kiosks are simply monitor and keyboard on
- counter with CPU locked below. Proper height, ventilation, and ADA
- requirements are design concerns. Such 'public terminals' will only be placed
- in public area adjacent to staffed areas...the lobby of the student services
- building, the library, the student center, academic departments. They are not
- mistreated, however, they are in "loosely monitored" areas. $1200 PCs are
- used with great success. Some keys are physically disabled... control, alt,
- and num lock. Student may access gopher-based CWIS as well as grade reports,
- student bill, transcript, financial aid info, student schedule...
-
- Delaware's Instructional Technology has built a multi-media kiosk which has
- been placed in shopping malls and un-monitored lobbies of both on-campus and
- off-campus buildings. The principle design parameter was to control the
- delivery of audio... to provide user with good sound quality, but to limit
- sound to immediate area. The kiosk is cylindrical. If multi-media delivery
- is a concern this may be of interest. For more details contact Pat Sine at
