- Joshi is by no means new, except maybe to your site. It infects the
- boot sector of floppy disks/hard disks. It is quite similar to Stoned, except
- that it attempts to hide itself from anti-virus programs and disk editors. On
- January 5th of any year, it pops up with the message "type Happy Birthday
- Joshi". Failure to type "Happy Birthday Joshi" will cause the machine to hang.
- It is not deliberately destructive. To eradicate the virus (and any virus
- for that matter), boot the infected machine from a CLEAN system diskette
- and run a relatively recent anti-virus program. The latest versions of
- F-PROT (2.06) or SCAN/CLEAN (v97) will be able to detect/remove Joshi.
- In fact, any AV program produced in 1991-1992 should be able to remove it.
