  24. "Sprucing up" is standard usage.  On the other hand,

  26. a) I'd drop "background" in that sentence, as it doesn't really mean much.

  28. b) I'd limit line length to 80 characters.  8-)

  30. If this is a sentence to be put in some formal document, e.g., the cover
  31. letter for your resume', don't use "spruce up," as it's a fairly informal
  32. usage.
