  14. AMOS is also a good alternative.  It allows you to do very impressive
  15. things very simply. such as graphics, animation, and sound.  While some
  16. people call this "a game making language" (and although it excells at
  17. that), it is actually an extention of BASIC.  It utilizes all the
  18. standard BASIC commands with addition support, such as Procedures, the
  19. ability to play converted MOD tunes (with a single command), and more. 
  20. The initial package costs between $70-$80 American.  There are support
  21. packages available, such as a compiler and a 3D graphics package.  There
  22. are hundreds of PD programs written in AMOS.  If you would like to see
  23. an example of what AMOS can do, there is a PD AMOS magazine available at
  24. FTP sites (like wuarchive.wustl.edu) and others called Amoner (it should
  25. be in .dms format).  Amoner4e.dms is a demo using AMOS 3D.
