  14. Portability is a very strong point yes... I will give you that... But,
  15. if it wasn't for all these people that go through and find all the little
  16. tricks in the machine, using machine code, and non-portable code, 
  17. you wouldn't have 90% of the software on the market... Think about it...
  18. Who has to write the compilers that you use to compile your nice little
  19. portable code? WOuldn't it be really nice if the compiler went through
  20. and did a nice little thing called "optimization", rather than producing
  21. the same exact code on every machine (ie, just translating from 80x86
  22. to 680x0...)?? I'm sure you've heard by now all the complaints from
  23. Amiga users with Wing Commander II... Thats because the company
  24. (I am assuming here..) wrote the imfamous "portable code", and just 
  25. translated from 80x86 to 680x0... What a peice of garbage software!

  28. Now I'm not saying that you shouldn't write portable code... Its just 
  29. between 2 TOTALLY different machines, maybe you should think twice...
  30. I certainly wouldn't wanna re-write Lotus-123 on the Amiga, I personly
  31. think we should leave that "boring software" to IBM... As for Macs,
  32. well.. I'll leave that one alone... Amiga is a fun machine, lets 
  33. leave it a fun machine... Maybe if some of the demo-codes could do 
  34. some nice things in their code such as: Automaticly switching to 
  35. PAL (check of course if we can! and if we can't tell us!), getting
  36. rid of Fast RAM (if needed)... In other words, auto-degrading....
  37. The code can't be THAT long for it, and it would make life a whole
  38. lot easier on a bunch of us... No more wasting time on different combo's
  39. of degrading, trying on different people's systems.. If we find out 
  40. what the sys requirements are, we can find someone who has such a 
  41. system, and go view it there! Hell... EVen a screen on startup with
  42. a minimun system list would be better than the way things are now!
