- Portability is a very strong point yes... I will give you that... But,
- if it wasn't for all these people that go through and find all the little
- tricks in the machine, using machine code, and non-portable code,
- you wouldn't have 90% of the software on the market... Think about it...
- Who has to write the compilers that you use to compile your nice little
- portable code? WOuldn't it be really nice if the compiler went through
- and did a nice little thing called "optimization", rather than producing
- the same exact code on every machine (ie, just translating from 80x86
- to 680x0...)?? I'm sure you've heard by now all the complaints from
- Amiga users with Wing Commander II... Thats because the company
- (I am assuming here..) wrote the imfamous "portable code", and just
- translated from 80x86 to 680x0... What a peice of garbage software!
-
-
- Now I'm not saying that you shouldn't write portable code... Its just
- between 2 TOTALLY different machines, maybe you should think twice...
- I certainly wouldn't wanna re-write Lotus-123 on the Amiga, I personly
- think we should leave that "boring software" to IBM... As for Macs,
- well.. I'll leave that one alone... Amiga is a fun machine, lets
- leave it a fun machine... Maybe if some of the demo-codes could do
- some nice things in their code such as: Automaticly switching to
- PAL (check of course if we can! and if we can't tell us!), getting
- rid of Fast RAM (if needed)... In other words, auto-degrading....
- The code can't be THAT long for it, and it would make life a whole
- lot easier on a bunch of us... No more wasting time on different combo's
- of degrading, trying on different people's systems.. If we find out
- what the sys requirements are, we can find someone who has such a
- system, and go view it there! Hell... EVen a screen on startup with
- a minimun system list would be better than the way things are now!
