- (I am hesitant to make suggestions, because unlike
- many people who post here, I seem to have had very
- happy memories of holidays, and ENJOY them. But
- I did want to reply, so Richard would not feel that
- he was being ignored. I did not see any other
- replies to his post - it may be due to our currently
- problematic newsfeed - if so, I apologise to anyone
- who has replied.)
-
- Richard - if you really don't want to do ANYthing for
- the holidays, then I encourage you not to do anything.
- Forcing yourself will not make you feel better. If,
- however, you are used to doing things, do them as you
- feel like it - if it is nothing more than getting out
- a champaign glass and opening a bottle of sparkling
- cider or champaign and toasting your mother on the
- holidays - or through the holidays.
-
- If, however, you really DO want to do something, but
- are not up to being with the rest of your family,
- then there are a few other suggestions. Check with
- your local net group(s) that you read/post. Or even
- alt.support - and see if anyone is going to be around
- during the days you want to "do something" who will do
- it with you. I know there are several people in the
- Bay Area who set up dinners for local "orphans" on the
- holidays. Offer to help. Consider it a support group
- dinner - no other emotional baggage attached - just
- a good excuse to get a group of people together. Or
- even just ONE other person and go to a restaurant.
-
- And the other option is to call your local shelter
- for homeless people and ask if they are going to be
- serving holiday dinners - and volunteer to help.
