  30.     It is not the traditional 'roles' per se that makes it so 
  31. shocking... it is that it happens so infrequently (SO infrequently) 
  32. that guy's don't know how to react.  I would find it hard to take 
  33. seriously if a woman asked me out after a brief meeting (and I ain't 
  34. ugly either!) simply becuase it has never happened to me!  It is more 
  35. typical for men to ask women out after brief meetings, but this isn't 
  36. a 'role stereotype' as much as it is a difference in the way men and 
  37. women approach relationships - in a sense, the role difference exists 
  38. because there IS a difference, not because society has CREATED a difference.
  39. I don't mean to sound sexist, but men *generally* 'move faster' than 
  40. women do, and thus are more likely to take the first move.  Thus if 
  41. a woman makes the first move (bounce bounce!  (inside joke)) it IS surprising.
  42. I'm not admonishing women who are forward, but simply suggesting that 
  43. they are still a rarity in our society, and that is probably NOT
  44. becuase most other women are 'role-playing', but more likely becuase there are 
  45. simply FEWER OF THEM!  It would be GREAT if we could 'share the 
  46. responsibility' for initiating a relationship... but I doubt that it 
  47. will ever happen simply becuse men are *more* inclined (for the right or 
  48. wrong reasons) to make the first move.  So I guess the upshot is 'get 
  49. used to it guys'.  Maybe if she isn't asking you out it is becuase she 
  50. doesn't LIKE you...???
