- FYI....
-
- If you are looking for a more interactive form of communication,
- then you might be interested in the program IRC. This stands for
- Internet Relay Chat. Basically, it lets you communicate with
- individuals on the Internet in a real time mode. Discussion groups
- are divided into "channels" that are loosley based on a common
- interest. For example, there might be a "French speaking" channel.
- You can join these channels and become involved in the discussion.
- Of course, it is incumbent upon you to make friends just as you
- would in any conversation. There is definitely a social aspect that
- many people like ;however, it also aids business productivity as
- well and can be used as a local tele-conferencing tool.
- The program is available for UNIX machines and supposedly some other
- platforms as well. If you don't know how to use it or where to get it,
- then you should probably bug your local system administrator. Some
- sites do not allow IRC usage since it does contribute to overall
- network load.
