  11. To add my own 250 millibucks, I agree that there is a gender-ratio imbalance 
  12. in most universities. Engineering and CompSci tend to be over-maled, and art 
  13. and Sociology tend to be over-femaled.

  15. This doesn't mean that these are exclusive realms of existance!

  17. I have on ongoing "fight" with my libertarian friends. Most -- nay, ALL -- of 
  18. them are males. The few female lib'ns I have ever met are "attached", and 
  19. that is the general impression of many other male lib'ns.

  21. On the OTHER hand, I have noticed that many of my unmarried, unattached 
  22. libertarian male friends are so vociferously "anti-PC" and otherwise hostile 
  23. toward women, that it is no wonder women stay away from libertarian politics 
  24. and social activities. Who wants to hang around with a bunch of guys who 
  25. compalain about women all the time? Even if some of the complaints are true, 
  26. they certainly *aren't* true for *every* woman; not even *most*, I suspect.

  28. I often make the suggestion that the lib'ns try to recruit more women rather 
  29. than bemoan the lack of them, and to stop bashing "feminism" and work to 
  30. introduce libertarian ideas into the feminist movement. Not only would it 
  31. have the immediate effect of providing a more balanced gender (and probably, 
  32. *dating*) ratio, but it could also perhaps double the number of anti-state 
  33. activists and widen the scope of their criticism.

  35. The last time I checked, Gloria Steinem had nothing to do with the low 
  36. frequnecy of my sexual contacts. And the last time I *did* have a "sexual 
  37. contact", it was in the absence of my complaining.

  39. Sure -- I'd be thrilled to have a girlfriend with Big (Cerebral) Hemispheres, 
  40. wit, similar ideas, and a hearty sexual appetite. And if you are a 
  41. heterosexual male -- wouldn't YOU?

  43. Remember, that many of those "missing women" are either UNAWARE of USENET, or 
  44. are just unwilling to hang out in an electronic agora populated with whiners 
  45. and misogynists. This is the #1 complaintI hear from women who DO have a 
  46. modem and know how to use it. I suspect that a few hours invested in showing 
  47. some of those women in Art and Soc and other "womanly" areas of academe, how 
  48. to use a computer and terminal software will be paid off in a better 
  49. cyberspace, and maybe a little bit of biological I/O.
