- Gentlemen, I'm living proof of the fact that there are women who read
- this newsgroup. I've posted personals twice, giving very little
- information about myself except my age, 37, and a tag line like
- 'working nights' or 'on the rebound' and have gotten responses. Then,
- last night, I jumped in on the flame-fest of Hassan (yep, I'm *that*
- Larry Brothers :-) and received a couple of direct responses - from
- women. So, guys, don't lament that there are no postings by women.
- Just go ahead and post anyhow; they're out there, lurking, but out
- there. (I had a playground analogy of raucous, attention-getting
- little boys and shy, demur girls forming, but...)
-
- But that's not what this post is about (see subject line). 'Success',
- as used here, does not mean that we got together, fell madly in love,
- jumped in the sack and plan to marry in the Spring and you're all
- invited, rather that we exchanged almost-daily messages, got to know
- about each other and flirted with mutual fantasies.
-
- The 'affair' was also successful in that it ended with mutual respect
- - and remorse. In her real world, 'Jane' re-kindled an old romance
- and found that there was no room for me. So be it. I wished her all
- the best and hoped that something of what we were building could be
- useful in realspace.
-
- She insisted on keeping it in e-mail. I jumped the gun and asked if
- we could at least hear each other's voices. She was *very* tempted,
- but the 'anticipation' and 'mystery' were more important to her. I
- realized my mistake and got things back on track.
-
- Alas, (great word!) it was all over all too soon. I was actually in
- the process of composing that day's steamy dish when I just 'happened'
- to check my mail and found the "Dear John". I hollered "Wait!" in the
- next paragraph, didn't hear anything for a couple of days, then got a
- very thoughtful "Sorry..."
-
- I realize how lucky I am to have had this happen. And how much I'm
- going to miss her...
