- Recently there have been a series of commercials on local
- radio for C&H Sugar, which is grown in Hawaii. These ads are
- basically all the same - they feature some old "sugar farmers"
- getting to eat something made with their sugar, and praising the
- taste of whatever it is because it has their sugar in it. Now for
- the peeve. The people in these ads act as if there is no modern life
- in Hawaii. They have the farmers saying how you cannot get "Jelly
- Belly" jelly beans in Hawaii, they say you cannot have high tea in
- a fancy hotel in Hawaii, etc etc, all with extremely dumb accents.
- Geez. You can have high tea in any one of the hugely overpriced
- hotels on Waikiki... you can buy "Jelly Belly" jelly beans at any
- supermarket or (miracles!) the MALL. Yes, in Hawaii we eat chocolate
- cake and scones. People do not all live on sugar farms, and even if
- you DO Oahu isn't all that big, it is NOT much trouble to go to
- town.
