Oh, man.  This really isn't worth responding, but I'm too fried by life
right now to respond properly to dac's flame, which is well-constructed
and very nasty.  This is rather easy pickings, and I consider responding
to it to be the equivalent of lifting very light weights after breaking
your arm.

I hope the guys from ac.da.ca keep posting this crap so that I can keep
in shape while nursing my wounds.

Also there's a serious problem that needs to be addressed here.  Those of you
who are not in fraternities may  wish to skip it.

Let me explain my thinking here.  Mike makes a sexual overture to me.  I
clearly communicate how repulsive this is to me, and he takes my protestations
to be an indication of how excited I am by him.  I know he was joking, he
knows he was joking.  Howver, the joking that he was doing is very similar
to what happens in a lot of date rape scenarios.  Since Mike makes a big
deal out of being in a frat, and since the incidence of date rape is
considerably higher in frats than out of them, I made a joke connecting
the two concepts.

This doesn't mean I think Mike commits rape, any more than Mike thinks
my NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! mean that I was having an orgasm.


Mike realizes this - if you don't, Steve, perhaps you better work on your
male/female communication skills.  Date rape isn't a joke.  You are
at hight risk, Steve.  You're in a fraternity (as I said this doesn't
automatically make you a date rapist, but it does put you in a situation
where the rate is higher); you obviously harbor a lot of resentment
towards women, and you seem to have a lot of trouble understanding what
a woman says - you can't distinguish between when a woman is joking and
when she is serious.  This is a big problem.

The above was NOT a flame.  It was an expression of sincere concern.  I
hope to God that you will prove me wrong on this, and I fully expect you
to protest your innocence.  I don't mind you screaming and ripping me
to shreds, but please - next time you're with a woman and she says "no"
remember me and show how you're so much better than I am by proving
me wrong.

Oh c'mon, Steve!  I've never met ANY of the guys on a.p.  They only know me
from my posts.  The letters that come up on their screens when they read
my posts are no different from the letters that come up when they read
Banta (that most manly of men)'s posts.  Perhaps you cannot read a female
name in the header without conjuring up a vision in your feverish, pulchritu-
dinous mind, but most of the guys posting to this group have left puberty
far behind them and can view me as more than a woman.  I got flames to bits
when I started posting, and I get flamed whenever my postings fall below a
certain level - just like anyone else.  I get no special treatment because
I'm a woman. Neither do booter, Laura, Jenny Ballman or Jenni Sheehy.
Perhaps you view of as considerably different from yourself becaus you
are incapable of considering a woman as more than the sum of her physical
attributes, but I doubt that this is true of the rest of the group.

Of course, some posts to me refer to my gender, just as some posts to Banta
refer to his not insignificant mass, some posts about Geoff comment on his
likeness to Jeffrey Dahmer.  But that's not the basis of ANYONE's persona.

As for your pathetic attempt at a humourous synopsis of what you think
flaming is, well, the less attention paid to that the better.
