  22. You know, I keep hearing about these machines, and I see the phrase "pull
  23. the lever" used quite often in connection with voting (but not nearly often
  24. enough in the context of capital punishment, alas), but I have yet to
  25. encounter a voting machine that actually *has* a lever, much less a shitload
  26. of them.

  28. All the voting machines I'ves used have been simple blue plastic affairs 
  29. with a short stylus attached to a chain.  After inserting the ballot at the
  30. top, so that a pair of red buttons stick through the holes at the top,
  31. turning the metal pages with the candidates' names and summaries of the 
  32. propositions printed on them exposes successive columns of perforated 
  33. rectangular holes on the ballot, and you just punch the appropriate ones.
