  14. I have a Native American friend here in Berlin, Germany, who
  15. has been living here for at least 20 years. She recently
  16. told me that it was _forbidden_ in North Carolina for
  17. Native Americans/American Indians _to marry_. She insisted
  18. it was like this, that they were generally forbidden "to marry",
  19. not just "to marry according to a traditional ritual". 
  20. (You see, I hardly believed her.) Is this true? If so, what
  21. legal justification exists for it? If not, what may be
  22. the reality behind this rumour?
